It’s absolutely NOT clear that Richardson was not a big issue lol. Mertz at least had a respectable game. Richardson can’t even complete 50% in preseason & looked pretty bad. Meanwhile his backup Minshew went 28 of 32 (4 incompletes all pre-season)… for 298 yrds & 2 TD’s passing & positive rushing yards…. There’s ZERO question that Richardson was given the starting job by the owner. Irsay even said he should start either the night they drafted him or the next day. He absolutely & unquestionably did not earn the job & even he himself knows it & you can tell by his own body language & verbal response to being named starter.

Not his spouse. Also her starting something wouldn't have any bearing as an affirmative defense to excessive, abnormal, & felonious assault following that, unless there's proof she was literally attempting to murder Beard. That's literally the only situation where that kind of conduct would be legally considered necessary to defend oneself. Anything above the "minimum force necessary" is chargeable regardless of what initially occurs. In other words, if I'm your brother and we get into it cuz you accidentally kick the back of my heel with your foot when you're squeezing past me in a tight place, after I had a recently recovered acilies injury & am finally just healed enough to play ? again... I can't say (to myself) that your kick could've inadvertently set me back again & kept me from trying out for the G Leauge and eventually moving up to the NBA & thereby use that as instantaneous & passionate justification to counter your kick with a swift cross to your nose that ends up breaking your nose & rupturing an eye orbit, & eventually threatening your eyesight in one eye permanently...
I feel like it's ultimately about not feeling like an eventual jury could be seated as impartial, after her walking back her initial sworn statement. Otherwise, it seems she'd have been charged criminally herself already. No DA wants to take on an unpredictable case in which it's not at all unlikely that it'd become a referendum on "women who utilize the criminal justice system as their weapon of choice to punish or control"... Even entertaining that would be a mistake for any DA who isn't okay with the possibility of never being re-elected anywhere, & having the rest of their legal & public service career decided based on whichever way the case ultimately went.
Her starting it wouldn't mitigate the actual assault. That's not why it was dropped. It also wasn't dropped because Beard is "absolutely innocent" or anything of that sort.
Beard can't sue unless he's an idiot. His contract language was clear that even being arrested for any felony was enough to justify firing. Charges or not has no bearing here.
I don't think the DA felt they couldn't meet the standard, necessarily. I think they think that they couldn't get an impartial jury in the state of Texas after the fiance decided to walk back hersworn statement. Those are 2 different things. Because of her actions, it likely could've become a social referendum on "men being punished by women who use the criminal legal system as their weapon of choice". No DA wants to invite that kind of unpredictable situation, knowing the outcome may likely decide the rest of their career.
She didn't drop the charges. That's not possible in criminal proceedings. The DA has to have been the one to do so. They likely decided that if she was recanting it wasn't worth pursuing, possibly in that it could have been such a divisive issue with him being such a high profile guy that they couldn't have gotten an impartial jury. DA's don't want to prosecute cases unless they know they have a better chance than not of winning, even when evidence still would support guilt (at times). If this were a nobody, the recanted statement could have still been used as evidence, along with injuries etc. But in this particular case, the outcome of that isn't a "slam dunk" like it would otherwise likely be, because of his high profile status & the unpredictability of how any Jury in Texas would react. It could have been tried & ended up becoming a political referendum about "men being punished by women via women using the legal system as their weapon", & I know no DA wants to be caught up in the middle of that type of situation... especially if they want to keep serving as DA & not have the rest of their career defined by such an unpredictable situation. Also in that same thinking, if it were proven or verifiable that his fiance lied, she'd be charged criminally for falsifying a sworn statement. They could have proceeded anyways & subpoenad her & treated her as hostile. If she didn't show or go along with that, she could've been charged with contempt of court.. or even perjury if she lied on the stand. It just seems, again, they didn't go forward how they typically could and would have because of the combined unpredictability that Beard's high profile status + the social divisiveness of the issues involved brings.
It absolutely will still appear on his record. Arrest appear regardless of charges & regardless of charges being droppped.
To Redsox2004: He had countless NFL players on his Ole Miss rosters & did ZERO with them. That's a fact. Ole Miss people have kept up with it, trust me!
He wasn't a great line coach at Ole Miss. They routinely underperformed under him.
In some states they already don't play each other. In Mississippi, publicly & privately funded schools have entirely separate football systems. Honestly, at least logically ur seems like that makes the most sense.
You can probably predict a lot of these just by looking at how the teams did against Power 5 bowl eligible opponents. For example:
He's done a lot more to deserve it than Mel Tucker.... THAT'S UNDENIABLE.
Michigan only has 5... Georgia has 8. Even Ole Miss has more than Michigan (with 6) & Baylor does too (7). Cincinnati only has 1, they honestly should count themselves lucky to be in.
Cincinnati has 1 win vs a P5 bowl eligible team... Ole Miss has 6, Baylor has 7. Stop acting like Cincinnati played a worthy schedule because that's an outright lie!
Yup. 1 win over a P5 bowl eligible team. OLE MISS has 6, Baylor has 7... It really sends a terrible message.
Cincinnati has 1 win over a P5 bowl eligible team.... They should count themselves lucky to even possibly be in the Playoff.
How? Georgia beat 8 P5 bowl eligible opponents & spanked most of them. Baylor beat 7 & barely won several & also lost to a terrible TCU... NOT CLOSE.
It's a smokescreen. Kiffin hasn't once given out injury info prior to gametime this year, so it makes zero competitive sense for him to suddenly offer up unsolicited legitimate info to help an opposing SEC defense...
Maybe it didn't seem like the most appropriate or sensitive thing to say, in the moment. However, Saban doesn't care about that. He is deliberate & measured with EVERYTHING he says. I guarantee you he said it to send a message, reinforcing why even his most electric players shouldn't forget why he coaches them to do (& not do) certain things in certain situations!!! This example allows him to go so far as to suggest that not following his fundamentals very well may result in getting injured on the 1st play of any given game & missing an entire season! Seems extreme, but a coach rarely gets opportunity to reinforce such a lesson in real time, without need for exaggerations or hypotheticals! Saban isn't one to waste a moment, even if it ends up with the media or some individuals labeling him as a bad guy!
Brenan was already putting up some of the best numbers in the nation this year.... just didn't matter cause the defense was so crappy they still lost & it totally overshadowed the offensive production. The new QB may still be worked in to help their running game gain some traction though.. but he's clearly not the better QB overall or even close.
We should've had a TD in the end zone on that ball that was touched by Auburn on the kick off.. Also, that last offensive Auburn TD almost certainly doesn't happen if Otis Reese is in the game at Safety... & there's literally no conceivable reason he shouldn't be already cleared by the NCAA (every other high profile transfer in THE ENTIRE USA got their answers long ago)... That's a 2 TD swing difference.... Should've been 35-27 Ole Miss easily. We got screwed by the refs & the NCAA in this game... Hard to win when you're playing the opponent AND refs AND the NCAA!!!! Having said that, Ole Miss made their own share of coaching & play execution mistakes... none as problematic to the integrity of the conference & game or CLOSE though...
