The last four teams in the SEC East standings — Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Missouri and South Carolina — are watching bowl games with everyone else this holiday season.

Two of those teams, based in Columbia east and west, have new head coaches while the other two schools are starting to wonder a bit about the coaches already in place.

So, which of these teams will bounce back to reach a bowl game next year? Let’s dive in:

VANDERBILT

2015 record: 4-8, 2-6 SEC

Starters lost: 6

Recruiting class: Currently ranked 14th in the SEC, 60th nationally, by 247Sports.

Schedule: Draws Auburn and Ole Miss from the SEC West and has non-conference dates against Middle Tennessee, at Georgia Tech, at Western Kentucky and Tennessee State.

Biggest obstacle: Must find some offense (and a reliable quarterback) to support a young, impressive defense.

Chance of playing in 2016 bowl: 40 percent — If the Commodores can win three of their four non-SEC games, they’ll have a decent shot to reach bowl eligibility (with a strong APR, five wins may work).

KENTUCKY

2015 record: 5-7, 2-6 SEC

Starters lost: 6

Recruiting class: Currently ranked ninth in the SEC, 25 nationally, by 247Sports.

Schedule: Draws Alabama and Mississippi State from the SEC West and has non-conference dates against Southern Miss, New Mexico State, Austin Peay and at Louisville.

Biggest obstacle: Like Vanderbilt, this team needs consistency at quarterback. With Patrick Towles’ departure, can Drew Barker provide it?

Chance of playing in 2016 bowl: 45 percent — The Wildcats should win at least three of their non-league games. Trips to Alabama, Florida and Tennessee are no picnic, but they get the Gamecocks and Commodores at home.

MISSOURI

2015 record: 5-7, 1-7 SEC

Starters lost: 9

Recruiting class: Currently ranked 13th in the SEC, 57 nationally, by 247Sports.

Schedule: Draws LSU and Arkansas from the SEC West and has non-conference dates against at West Virginia, Eastern Michigan, Delaware State and Middle Tennessee.

Biggest obstacle: Can Barry Odom use the Gary Pinkel model (under-the-radar recruits that are developed really well) and shake off this past season’s turmoil? Also, fixing one of the nation’s worst offenses is a must.

Chance of playing in 2016 bowl: 25 percent — The offensive line must be retooled and the best players on offense (Russell Hansbrough) and defense (Kentrell Brothers) are gone. Still, there should be at least three wins against non-SEC foes and Georgia, Vandy and Kentucky all visit Faurot Field. So I’m saying there’s a chance…

SOUTH CAROLINA

2015 record: 3-9, 1-7 SEC

Starters lost: 9

Recruiting class: Currently ranked 12th in the SEC, 49 nationally, by 247Sports.

Schedule: Draws Mississippi State and Texas A&M from the SEC West and has non-conference dates with East Carolina, UMass, Western Carolina and at Clemson.

Biggest obstacle: New coach Will Muschamp will need to work his mojo on one of the nation’s worst defenses. Better QB play wouldn’t hurt, either.

Chance of playing in 2016 bowl: 20 percent — The Gamecocks will be favored in three of their four non-SEC games. They also avoid the power teams from the West and get Missouri, Georgia and Tennessee at home.
