Jontay Porter has received a lifetime ban from the NBA for gambling, the league announced on Wednesday afternoon.

Porter was on a two-way contract with the Toronto Raptors this season. He’s been under investigation by the league for suspicious betting activity surrounding his performance in multiple games this season.

Here’s an excerpt from the NBA’s release on its investigation into Porter:

“The league’s investigation found that prior to the Raptors’ March 20 game, Porter disclosed confidential information about his own health status to an individual he knew to be an NBA bettor. Another individual with whom Porter associated and knew to be an NBA bettor subsequently placed an $80,000 parlay proposition bet with an online sports book, to win $1.1 million, wagering that Porter would underperform in the March 20 game.”

In that March 20 contest, Porter exited the game with an illness after playing just 3 minutes. He totaled 0 points, 0 assists and 2 rebounds in a 123-89 loss to the Sacramento Kings.

The league’s investigation also found that Porter placed 13 bets on the NBA himself while using an online account. His NBA bets included a parlay where he bet on the Raptors to lose, per the NBA’s statement.

Here’s the full statement from the NBA:

Porter had a brief NBA career as he played in just 37 total games between 2021 and 2024. He also spent parts of several seasons in the NBA’s G-League.

Porter spent 1 season at Mizzou in 2017-18. He scored 9.9 points per game and was named to the SEC’s all-freshman team that season. He was also named the SEC’s 6th Man of the Year for his efforts that season.

He is the younger brother of Denver Nuggets forward and ex-Mizzou player Michael Porter Jr.
