Since 2010, the college football world has been dominated by the SEC, with the Alabama Crimson Tide leading that charge under Nick Saban.

Clemson has emerged as a very major threat to Alabama’s dynasty, but still has a long way to go to match what the Tide have accomplished since 2010.

On Tuesday, Sporting News analyst Bill Bender ranked the top-20 programs since 2010, and it’s no surprise to see six SEC teams on the list. They are:

  • No. 1 — Alabama
  • No. 6 — LSU
  • No. 9 — Auburn
  • No. 12 — Georgia
  • No. 13 — Florida
  • No. 15 — Texas A&M

So, how did Bender arrive at these rankings? He broke down the criteria in the article:

Here are the categories we used to determine those programs:

National championships: 10 points each
National title game appearances: 5 points each
College Football Playoff appearances: 5 points each
New Year’s Day Six/BCS bowl appearances: 3 points each
Heisman Trophy winners: 2 points each

That’s not all: Overall winning percentage, All-Americans and NFL Draft picks first-round picks were awarded with a poll style 15-1 score. Ties were broken by the team with the higher ranking heading into this season.
