Clemson’s defense of the national championship just got a little tougher.

The latest news out of South Carolina is unfortunate as it’s being reported that junior receiver Amari Rodgers has suffered a significant leg injury during spring practice. News of this injury was first reported by TigerNet.com.

Rodgers had a breakout year for the Tigers last season when the team went on to win the national title as he caught 55 passes for 575 yards and four touchdowns. With Hunter Renfrow leaving the Clemson program this offseason — believe it or not, Renfrow finally ran out of eligibility — the Tigers will need a slot receiver to pick up the slack. Until this injury news, Rodgers was the logical choice for the role.

The Knoxville, Tenn. native signed with the Tigers over USC and Tennessee. He is also the son of current Tennessee and former USC offensive coordinator Tee Martin.
