Spring practice is now a thing of the past all around the nation in college football. Taking that into consideration, it’s no surprise to see post-spring Top 25 lists popping up all around the web.

The worldwide leader in sports is the latest to debut a Top 25 list, which was posted Wednesday morning by Mark Schlabach over at ESPN.com, and his list features six SEC teams. Schlabach also posted a ranking before spring, which featured Clemson as the nation’s #1 team. His new list bumps the Crimson Tide above the Tigers and docks both Georgia and Auburn a bit. His list also elevates Mississippi State and Texas A&M.

Here is how every SEC team mentioned ranked on the list:

  • #1 — Alabama
  • #4 — Georgia
  • #16 — Mississippi State
  • #19 — Auburn
  • #23 — Texas A&M
  • #25 — South Carolina
  • Dropped out — LSU

Taking his list a step further, four league teams have incredibly tough schedules to navigate in 2018. Here are the four SEC teams that face at least four of Schlabach’s Top 25 teams heading into the 2018 season:

Tennessee: vs. #11 West Virginia (Charlotte), @ #4 Georgia, @ #19 Auburn, vs. #1 Alabama, @ #25 South Carolina

Thoughts: Not only does Tennessee play five of these ranked teams, but the only home game will be Oct. 20 against the #1 team on the list. Good luck with that.

LSU: vs. #8 Miami (Arlington), @ #19 Auburn, vs. #4 Georgia, vs. #16 Mississippi State, vs. #1 Alabama

Thoughts: The Tigers at least get the two highest ranked teams at home this year. How well LSU manages the trip to AT&T Stadium Week 1 and the Week 3 trip to Auburn on Sept. 15 will likely determine the season for the Tigers.

Auburn: vs. #6 Washington (Atlanta), @ #16 Mississippi State, @ #4 Georgia, @ #1 Alabama

Thoughts: On the plus side, Auburn only has to face four ranked teams. On the negative, three of those appear poised to be legit Playoff contenders, and none of them are at home. The Tigers were not the same team last season on the road, and if that trend continues, 2018 is going to be a long one for Gus Malzahn.

Texas A&M: vs. #2 Clemson, @ #1 Alabama, @ #25 South Carolina, @ #16 Mississippi State, @ #19 Auburn

Thoughts: Jimbo Fisher could be the best hire of the offseason but it likely won’t look that way early on as the Aggies face arguably the nation’s best two teams in the first month of the season. Even if Fisher somehow manages to elevate A&M to a top 10 program this offseason, the odds of winning either game looks slim. Navigating the three-game ranking road stretch from Oct. 13 to Nov. 3 will tell us a lot about Fisher’s coaching impact in College Station.
