The Big Ten has finally passed the SEC — at least in one regard.

While the separation on the field between the two conferences remains wide, the Big Ten can claim it reports higher revenue than the SEC these days. That’s an accurate statement too, as the Big Ten reports revenue of over $758 million for the latest fiscal year, according to Steve Berkowitz of USA Today Sports. The SEC reported revenue of $660 million during the conference’s latest fiscal year.

The Big Ten previously reported revenue of $512.9 million in 2017.

The reason for the Big Ten’s massive increase in revenue figures? The conference recently reached a six-year deal with ESPN, FOX Sports worth $2.64 billion for its broadcasting rights. The SEC’s TV deal, which was a 15-year deal, was agreed upon back in 2008. It’s fair to assume the SEC will land a massive deal once the current deal expires but until that time, the Big Ten may hold its television rights over the SEC’s head for the time being.
