Not our best week or our worst last week, but we’ll plug on, going boldly where college football experts everywhere go. Here we go, being bold. It’s what we do — every week, we give you a bold prediction (and sometimes sneak in a second one for extra credit) for each SEC game.

Alabama wins easily, but doesn’t cover

Mississippi State is the Rodney Dangerfield of the SEC. Sure, it’s not Dak Prescott’s Bulldogs, but they didn’t beat A&M with smoke and mirrors. Alabama is Alabama, and they’re certainly not going to follow A&M on the upset train, but with QB Nick Fitzgerald running the ball as well as he is, Alabama won’t cover that mammoth 30-point spread. You hope for moral victories against Alabama, because that’s about all there is to be had.

Score one for the Razorbacks

A week ago, a lot of people thought LSU would beat Alabama. This week, a lot of people think they go into Arkansas and thump the Hogs. But not so fast. Arkansas has had one stinker of a game this year, and won’t repeat their Auburn embarrassment. Meanwhile, the balanced Arkansas offense will make enough plays to spring a mild upset.

South Carolina does it again

Why not? Jake Bentley has a live arm, and the SC ground game can grind out just enough to help him pull off one of the most surprising wins of the year. The Gators offense runs like a 1976 Yugo that’s low on gas, and Carolina’s bend-but-don’t-break defense won’t give them anything easy. This game will compete with Bama and LSU for one of the ugliest in recent memory, but the Gamecocks pull a mild shocker.

Tennessee gets back to comeback magic

This game will be harder than expected for the Vols. UT’s penchant for starting slow and Kentucky’s tough ground game could put the Vols in an early hole. That said, Tennessee will have the late answer and will get back to their roots as a fourth quarter comeback team, and will win late. They probably end up with the East too, it says here.

Auburn runs all over Georgia

Auburn is the top rushing team in the league and they’ll keep doing what they do. Georgia struggled with Kentucky’s running attack, and won’t look better between the hedges against Auburn. Auburn will cover the spread, and Kamryn Pettway goes for 150 yards.

Vandy upsets Mizzou, approaches a bowl

This is one of those games where the wrong team is favored. Missouri is on a fast train to nowhere, and about eight people will be at this game. Vandy isn’t the strongest team in the world, but they don’t beat themselves, and can hand the ball to Ralph Webb a lot. Vandy gets its fifth win, and needs to beat injury riddled Ole Miss or injury riddle UT to reach a bowl.

A&M will run and run and run on Ole Miss

Trayveon Williams is due for a big game, and Ole Miss isn’t the most disappointing team in the SEC for nothing. Pencil Williams down for 175 yards, and A&M will be good enough in the passing game to make them two-dimensional, as opposed to a possibly no dimensional Ole Miss squad. A&M by three scores.
