On Monday evening, a protection order was filed by a woman against Oklahoma RB Rodney Anderson.

On Tuesday, it was revealed that the order was requested due to a possible rape, stemming from an incident in November.

With the Sooners preparing to play Georgia in the College Football Playoff semifinals, this is not the kind of news the team wanted to come out about the star running back, but the allegations are serious ones that will have to be dealt with.

On Tuesday, Anderson’s attorney — Derek Chance — released a statement unequivocally denying that his client had done what the woman accused him of doing (via 247Sports):

“Mr. Anderson first learned of Ms. (——) request for a civil protective order late yesterday evening. Mr. Anderson is shocked and disturbed by Ms. (——) claims. The allegations are patently false. Mr. Anderson did not, nor would he ever, force himself on any woman.

“Following November 16, 2017, Ms. (——) attempted to pursue a relationship with Mr. Anderson. While we can only speculate as to Ms. (——) motives in seeking a civil protective order, her claims surfaced only after Mr. Anderson did not reciprocate a desire to pursue a relationship with Ms. (——). In fact, Mr. Anderson declined several social invitations from Ms. (——) between November 16th and December 4th.

“There are undoubtedly true victims of sexual assault, for whom Mr. Anderson carries a tremendous amount of compassion. However, there are those accused of sexual assault which they unequivocally did not commit—as is the case for Mr. Anderson. It is incumbent on our community to reserve judgment and to treat this allegation on its own merit. We are confident that when authorities have all of the information surrounding this circumstance, Mr. Anderson will be completely exonerated of any wrongdoing, and he looks forward to the conclusion of this investigation so he can focus on his obligations as a student-athlete.”

Anderson has run for 960 yards and 11 touchdowns this year, both of which lead the Sooners.

Whether or not charges are filed in this case remains to be seen, but it’s not a good look for Anderson.
