With Week 8 in the books, ESPN Analytics has updated its rankings models. The Football Power Index (FPI) has processed Saturday’s games and updated its top 25 teams.

ESPN Analytics defines the FPI as a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team’s performance going forward for the rest of the season. The post-Week 8 results remind that the FPI rankings do not directly align with a team’s record or resume.

Alabama and Georgia have been the highest SEC teams, and that remains the case entering Week 9. UA has moved 2 spots up to No. 5 after its comeback win over Tennessee.

Georgia was off in Week 8. While there was plenty of movement around UGA, the Bulldogs remain the FPI’s No. 8 team.

Among SEC teams, LSU, Texas A&M and Mizzou all moved up.  The Aggies are 4-3 and were off in Week 8, but moved up 2 spots to No. 15 for Week 9.

Ole Miss slid 1 spot after defeating Auburn. Tennessee stayed at No. 16 after picking up its second loss.
