As spring football come to a close around the nation, ESPN released its post-spring top 25. The list featured six programs from the SEC: #1 Alabama, #4 Georgia, #16 Mississippi State, #19 Auburn, #23 Texas A&M and #25 South Carolina.

Following up on that list, ESPN recently posted one position of strength for each member of its top 25 list. Here, we’ve shared what unit ESPN listed for every SEC program on the list and provided our thoughts on why the selection makes sense.

Here’s the rundown:

#1 — Alabama: Running back

Damien Harris, Najee Harris and Josh Jacobs would likely start for nearly any college football program in 2018 but will have to share the ball for the Crimson Tide next season. Add in players like Brian Robinson and freshman Jerome Ford and it’s easy to see why ESPN is high on Bama’s runners.

#4 — Georgia: Defensive secondary

The Bulldogs return veteran DBs in corner Deandre Baker and safety J.R. Reed. Both players project to be selected as All-SEC performers this preseason. There’s plenty of young talent in that unit as well from the likes of sophomore Richard LeCounte, and true freshmen Tyson Campbell, Divaad Wilson and Nadab Joseph.

#16 — Mississippi State: Quarterback

Nick Fitzgerald may be the SEC’s best quarterback and based on the early returns we’ve seen from Keytaon Thompson, there’s a chance Mississippi State has the league’s best backup QB, too. Hail State also added a touted Texas high school prospect in Jalen Mayden this offseason.

#19 — Auburn: Defensive line

Returning arguably the nation’s best defensive line made this an easy selection for the Tigers. Marlon Davidson, Derrick Brown, Dontavius Russell make this line great but depth from players like Nick Coe, T.D. Moultry and Big Kat Bryant make it one of the best. The Tigers also signed high school All-American Coynis Miller this offseason.

#23 — Texas A&M: Defensive line

The Aggies have a solid foundation up front thanks to Landis Durham, Daylon Mack, Kingsley Keke, Michael Clemons. Texas A&M also added a trio of elite defensive line prospects this offseason with the additions of Max Wright, Bobby Brown and Jeremiah Martin.

#25 — South Carolina: Receiver

Despite having one of the younger receiving corps in the league last season, the Gamecocks got plenty of production from Shi Smith, OrTre Smith and Randrecous Davis in 2017. With veteran potential All-SEC players like Deebo Samuel, if he can stay healthy, and Bryan Edwards, South Carolina has one of the best receiver units in the SEC entering the 2018 season.
