Injury to talented Miami CB Malek Young revealed to be career-ending
LSU opening-week opponent Miami received some terrible news this weekend.
The career of Hurricanes CB Malek Young is over due to an injury he suffered in the Orange Bowl against Wisconsin on Dec. 30. Young injured his neck/vertebrae in the first quarter of the game and did not return.
In his sophomore season, Young notched two interceptions and a team-leading eight pass breakups. Sports Illustrated notes that Young was the first Canes player to sport the popular turnover chain in the 2017 season. In his career, Young recorded 66 tackles, three interceptions and 11 pass deflections.
Miami finished its second season under Mark Richt 10-3 after dropping the Orange Bowl 34-24. Richt’s squad is set to open the 2018 season against LSU in Arlington, Texas at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys, on Sept. 1.
Sad news for #Miami standout CB: Malek Young will undergo career-ending surgery for a neck injury he sustained during the Hurricanes’ game against Wisconsin in the Capital One Orange Bowl.

God has the best plan, even when we don’t understand His ways or His timing. You are a great warrior and a true Cane…and there can only be one first…you’ll always be the 1️⃣st to rock the chain! ⛓📙_📗⛓ pic.twitter.com/fJDLCuXbjT
