Report: NCAA Board of Governors holds meeting, reaches no conclusion on fall sports championships
By Adam Spencer
Published:
The NCAA Board of Governors met on Tuesday, and it was a lengthy meeting, lasting until 7 p.m., according to Sports Illustrated’s Ross Dellenger.
However, one of the biggest items at the meeting, determining whether or not to have fall sports championships, did not get voted on.
Per Stadium’s Brett McMurphy, this leaves it open for each of the NCAA divisions to determine how they want to handle things:
NCAA Board of Governors, which consists of reps from Divisions I-III, did not vote on fall sports championships, sources told @Stadium. Instead each Division will decide if & how to proceed with fall sports, sources told @Stadium, because of drastic differences between Divisions

This is huge news for potentially having FBS football in fall because Division I schools have more resources – & more at stake – to try and play fall sports than Division II & III schools, sources told @Stadium https://t.co/A19VO8G2oJ

As for how that affects the Division I ranks, it could come down to Wednesday’s DI Board of Directors meeting:
The DI Board of Directors is scheduled to meet Wednesday.

Of course, there’s no guarantee that the Board of Directors will vote on Wednesday, which would leave sports in sort of a limbo situation.
Not only football is affected by this decision, so we’ll see what happens when Wednesday’s meeting takes place.
