NFL ratings may have been down this season but the price to broadcast the games continues to rise to record highs.

Case in point, Thursday Night Football is leaving CBS for FOX according to John Ourand of Sports Business Daily. FOX won the rights to air the games for five years at a hefty price tag of $550 million per season thru 2022. CBS had been paying $450 million per season under the previous Thursday Night Football deal.

FOX will now air the 11 Thursday Night Football games, however, some of the games will continue to be broadcast on NFL Network. The games are expected to pick up a digital partner as well. Twitter has been broadcasting the games as the digital partner under the previous contract.

Also of note, according to Ourand, FOX does not plan to use its lead broadcast team of Joe Buck and Troy Aikman for the Thursday Night games. That’s something CBS has been doing under the previous deal.

The announcement of this deal is expected to be made official Wednesday.
