So many favored teams lost this week, several at home. That means sad fans were everywhere, waiting for us at SFAS to exploit their misery. You’re welcome!

Georgia fell from the ranks of the undefeated with a loss at LSU:

Sweet old-school hat, though:

This game was not even a nail-biter. Or was it?

Sometimes sad fans get a bit theatrical…

… while others stick to the classics, like Surrender Cobra:

At Auburn, a brutal performance in a home loss to Tennessee led some to try to smile through their pain:

But usually Tigers fans let their glum expressions through. Oh, and congrats, Vols fans, you get a week’s vacation from this space:

I said this last week and I’ll say it again: It seems cruel to pick on Arkansas fans, but we’ll do it anyway:

Washington saw its College Football Playoff hopes evaporate in a loss at Oregon:

Ditto for Penn State in a home loss to Michigan State:

And things keep getting sadder at TCU in a disappointing season:

When does basketball season start? Does that even end the sadness at Indiana anymore?

Don’t let Herbie Husker’s smile fool you: Nebraska fans trying to maintain their optimism amid the program’s first 0-6 start, and a 10-game losing streak dating to last season, might be the saddest thing in all of college football fandom right now:

After squandering a late 10-point lead at Northwestern, Big Red still has a big sad.

Finally, a note of genuine sadness as opposed to our usual mocking, snarky sadness here. LSU’s Jim Taylor, who went on to a Hall of Fame career as a fullback with Vince Lombardi’s 1960s Packers teams, died Saturday at age 83 in his hometown of Baton Rouge:

The soft-spoken Taylor was a hard man as a player and left an indelible mark in football history.
