Well, folks, we are now on the other side of the college football equinox, if you will. We are now closer to the 2019 football season than we are to the end of the 2018 campaign.

Every week from here on out draws us closer to football, and unlike the short-lived AAF, I’m pretty sure we’ll actually make it through the entire season.

Media Days are just around the corner, and summer practices will be here before we know it. The weather is nice and everything is in bloom, so enjoy it before we settle in for another great year of SEC football.

Here are your questions for this week’s SDS Mailbag:

@WadeAB:

Feleipe Franks has come out as the seventh-best QB prospect for the 2020 NFL Draft and I’ve heard from people in the know that the plan is for him to leave early … am I missing something? I know the size and arm is there, but he needs to improve greatly on his 2018 season. Thoughts?

The thing about Franks is that he absolutely looks the part of an NFL quarterback. Even as guys like Drew Brees, Russell Wilson, Baker Mayfield and, now, Kyler Murray take over the league, scouts and GMs cling to their notions of the tall, strong-armed quarterback when it comes to the draft process.

However, I agree with you on Franks’ current draft position. I’d have him behind Tua Tagovailoa, Jake Fromm, Justin Herbert, Jacob Eason, K.J. Costello, Shea Patterson and perhaps a couple of others, but that doesn’t mean that’s set in stone.

If Franks does indeed have a big year and show signs of improving as a passer, he could easily become a top 5 quarterback prospect. I think he’ll return for his senior year in 2020, but he could have a tough decision to make next January.

@Reaves3680:

Who wins the backup job in New England — Brian Hoyer, Jarrett Stidham or Danny Etling?

Unfortunately for former LSU QB Danny Etling, I think the Patriots’ decision to draft ex-Auburn QB Jarrett Stidham in Round 4 of the 2019 NFL Draft will bring an end to his time in New England.

Hoyer will almost certainly be Brady’s backup in 2019, as he’s the guy with the most experience. Meanwhile, since the Pats invested a fourth-round pick in Stidham and only spent a 2018 seventh-round pick on Etling, Etling would be easier to cut ties with.

Simply by virtue of spending the 2018 season with the Patriots, though, Etling would likely get a shot at making another team’s roster, but I just don’t see him spending the 2019 campaign in New England. At least he got a Super Bowl ring out of it.

@TheDouglas6:

Is there any drama inside SDS? We want to hear from you. How are y’all’s lives?

My wife watches a lot of “Real Housewives” and “Vanderpump Rules” and other drama-filled TV like that, and I’ve got to say, the day-to-day life at Saturday Down South is exactly like that. Between all the crying, backstabbing and sabotage, it’s a miracle we get anything done around here.

Wait, scratch that. It’s exactly like “The Office.” We even have a guy named Michael. We all know Connor is the Ryan of SDS and Marler is the Dwight. I, naturally, am the Jim of the group.

In all honesty, it’s a pretty chill group. Working online is definitely interesting, but it helps to avoid the office politics that often dominate a workplace. We’ll see how things go when I dominate everyone at Top Golf again during SEC Media Days this year (that might be a bit of revisionist history on my part, but that’s how I remember it).

@HReside:

Is cereal a soup?

I am too easy-going about questions like this, so I say sure. If you want to consider cereal a soup, go for it. If you want to say a hot dog is a sandwich, more power to you. Now, if you come at me and try to force your opinion on me and say your way is the only right way, I’m absolutely going to take the opposite side just to make you mad.

Is a hot dog actually a taco? Is a taco a sandwich? Is a smoothie a sandwich? Is a sandwich a hot dog? I’m fine with whatever you believe, so long as you don’t try to shove it in my face (actually, feel free to shove a taco in my face).

Let’s just all get along and argue about the things that really matter, like which SEC mascot would be the best to have alongside you in a zombie apocalypse.
