We’ve officially made it to February, and that means teams are running out of time to make an impression on the NCAA Tournament selection committee.

Several SEC teams are in the mix for March Madness, but all of them still have some work to do.

So, as we head deeper into February, here’s a look at how the 14 SEC teams stack up against one another:

14. Vanderbilt (8-13 overall, 0-8 in SEC, Last week: 14)

Vanderbilt’s SEC losing streak has reached 26 games and might not end for some time yet. Yes, the Commodores gave Kentucky and Florida a bit of a scare last week, but this week will be another tough one.

First, Wednesday, the Commodores host a tough LSU team that is dominant on the road. Then, Saturday, they travel to Starkville to play a resurgent Mississippi State squad.

13. Ole Miss (10-11, 1-7, LW: 11)

Ole Miss had a brutal schedule last week, hosting Auburn on Tuesday and going to LSU on Saturday. The game at LSU didn’t go so well, as the Rebels trailed 40-20 at halftime and lost 73-63.

That came on the heels of a double-overtime loss to Auburn. The Rebels should have won that game, but couldn’t hold off the Tigers as they won the 2nd half 46-29 to force overtime. In overtime, Auburn’s experience paid off. Now, the Rebels are sitting at 1-7 in league play and have to try to bounce back against South Carolina and Florida this week.

12. Mizzou (10-11, 2-6, LW: 13)

The Tigers continue to baffle me. Just when it looks like they might have things figured out after a 20-point comeback win over Georgia, they go out Saturday and get completely owned by South Carolina by 22 points.

Mizzou went 19-for-58 from the floor in that loss to the Gamecocks. You aren’t going to win many games when you shoot 32.8%. This team is a mess, and a trip to Texas A&M and a home game against Arkansas this week won’t be easy.

11. Texas A&M (10-10, 4-4, LW: 10)

Wendell Mitchell had a big week, leading the Aggies in scoring in both the win at Tennessee and loss at Georgia. Against Tennessee, Mitchell hit this insane step-back 3 to give the Aggies a lead with less than a minute left in the 2nd half:

It’ll be interesting to see how the Aggies fare this week, as they host Mizzou on Tuesday and then travel to South Carolina on Saturday. They could go 2-0 if they play well.

10. Georgia (12-9, 2-6, LW: 12)

Anthony Edwards had an incredible outburst, showing his full potential in Saturday’s big win over Texas A&M. He finished with 29 points and 15 rebounds and also threw down this incredible windmill dunk:

The Bulldogs have 2 big games this week — at Florida on Wednesday and at home against Alabama on Saturday. Those are probably both must-win games for the Bulldogs’ NCAA Tournament hopes.

9. Tennessee (12-9, 4-4, LW: 6)

It was a tough week for the Vols, losing at home to Texas A&M and then falling at Mississippi State on Saturday. It’s tough to win at Mississippi State, but that home loss to A&M is a bad one for the Vols.

Now, as Rick Barnes and his team try to regroup for this week’s games at Alabama (Tuesday) and at home against Kentucky (Saturday), they’re in a dangerous spot. At 12-9, the Vols need to start putting together some big wins if they’re going to stay on the fringes of the March Madness discussion.

8. Alabama (12-9, 4-4, LW: 4)

Alabama’s offense continues to be just fine, scoring 76 points at LSU on Wednesday and 78 points at home against Arkansas on Saturday. However, now that Herb Jones is out indefinitely with a wrist injury, the Crimson Tide defense took a big hit.

The Tide lost both of those games mentioned above, falling to 4-4 in SEC play. Jones’ impact was felt in that loss to Arkansas especially, as Jimmy Whitt Jr. scored 26 points and Mason Jones scored a game-high 30 points. Jones would have been guarding one of them.

Alabama hosts Tennessee on Tuesday and plays at Georgia on Saturday. Both games will be tough if the defense doesn’t find a way to move on without Jones.

7. South Carolina (13-8, 5-3, LW: 9)

South Carolina is on a roll entering this week. After winning an ugly game at Arkansas, the Gamecocks absolutely destroyed Mizzou on Saturday, 76-54.

Maik Kotsar led the way against the Tigers, recording a 21-point, 11-rebound double-double. He also had 4 blocks to complete the solid defensive effort. The Gamecocks have a 3-game winning streak and a manageable week ahead.

Wednesday, the Gamecocks will take on Ole Miss in Oxford. Then, Saturday, they’ll play host to Texas A&M. Could South Carolina really improve to 7-3 in SEC play? That would be wild.

6. Arkansas (16-5, 4-4, LW: 7)

While Isaiah Joe continues to be inconsistent as he battles back from injury, Mason Jones and Jimmy Whitt Jr. are carrying the load. Arkansas picked up an important road win at Alabama on Saturday, with those 2 combining for 56 points (30 for Jones).

But Jones isn’t just a shooter. Look at this defense he played on Alabama’s Kira Lewis Jr. in a key 2nd-half situation:

The Hogs have a tough game Tuesday night, as they’ll host No. 11 Auburn. That would be a huge win for the Razorbacks’ tournament resume.

5. Florida (13-8, 5-3, LW: 5)

After blowing a big lead against Mississippi State on Tuesday, the Gators struggled against Vanderbilt on Saturday. The Gators aren’t playing very inspiring basketball and fans aren’t happy with coach Mike White.

If Florida can’t go 2-0 this week, with games at home against Georgia on Wednesday and at Ole Miss on Saturday, things will get ugly in Gainesville. If Florida takes care of business to improve to 7-3 in SEC play, though, tensions might ease a bit.

4. Mississippi State (14-7, 5-3, LW: 8)

How far can Reggie Perry carry Mississippi State? We’ll find out Tuesday night in Lexington, as the Bulldogs will take on No. 15 Kentucky. Perry and Kentucky big man Nick Richards are probably the 2 favorites for the SEC Player of the Year award.

The Bulldogs will get to cool down after that game with a trip to Nashville to take on Vanderbilt on Saturday, but winning at Kentucky would be a huge victory for Ben Howland’s squad.

3. Kentucky (16-5, 6-2, LW: 2)

Saturday’s loss at Auburn featured 49 fouls called, including 29 against Kentucky. The Tigers shot 44 free throws, making 33. Ashton Hagans and Immanuel Quickley fouled out, but before Quickley exited, he scored a team-high 23 points.

Richards only managed 7 points and 7 rebounds while doing battle with Austin Wiley in the post, but he did record this nice putback slam:

The Wildcats need to regroup from the Auburn loss quickly, as Reggie Perry and Mississippi State come to town Tuesday. Then, the Wildcats head to Tennessee on Saturday for a tough matchup with the Vols.

2. Auburn (19-2, 6-2, LW: 3)

ESPN’s College GameDay could have just left its stuff in Auburn this week. It remains to be seen where the show will be Saturday, but No. 11 Auburn hosts No. 18 LSU in what might be the game of the week.

After the atmosphere in Saturday’s big win over Kentucky, the show will likely be back soon. Austin Wiley was certainly ready for the game, out-dueling Nick Richards in the post. Here’s a big-time and-one he had after an offensive rebound:

Wiley finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Can he keep dominating as the Tigers take on Arkansas on Tuesday and LSU on Saturday.

1. LSU (17-4, 8-0, LW: 1)

What can I say about the Tigers that hasn’t already been said? Will Wade’s crew continues to chug along, beating Alabama and Ole Miss last week. And, in a much-needed change of pace, the Tigers won those games by more than 4 points.

However, there is still an alarming trend, as the Tigers were outscored by Alabama and Ole Miss in the 2nd half after taking a big 1st-half lead. It would be nice to see LSU dominate from start to finish, but they keep winning and that’s the most important thing of all.

Can they keep their road magic going this week? After playing in Vanderbilt on Wednesday, the Tigers will head to Auburn for a huge Saturday showdown. That will be a very important game in the SEC standings.
