SEC Network analyst Cole Cubelic boldly predicted Monday on Twitter that Alabama will enter the Iron Bowl this November with two losses. Few people had trouble accepting his prediction that FSU will win the Week 1 showdown in Atlanta, but Cubelic’s prediction of a Mississippi State raised eyebrows.

Cubelic was a guest on “The Paul Finebaum Show” Wednesday to discuss his prediction for Nov. 11.

“The Alabama defense loses a lot upfront,” Cubelic told Finebaum on Wednesday. “I think they’re taking a huge step back on the edge.

“I think Nick Fitzgerald and Dan Mullen will try to attack that defense. If they can do that, and have some success down the field, I think Mississippi State can pull an upset. I think Dan Mullen’s due to get a big, signature win in the SEC and they catch Alabama at the right time.”

Scheduling plays a big factor in Cubelic’s prediction. Mississippi State faces UMass the week before hosting Alabama, allowing for Mullen to potentially use two weeks of practice to prepare for the Crimson Tide. Nick Saban’s squad, meanwhile, will be coming off playing LSU, a traditionally taxing, physical battle, before facing the Bulldogs.
