Quarterback is the most important position in the NFL and the game’s top players at that position are paid handsomely.

But, in the search for quality quarterback play, many players are given top contracts and fail to live up to expectations.

Pro Football Focus recently listed the five worst quarterback contracts in the NFL, and two former SEC standouts were named.

New York Giants QB Eli Manning topped the list for his contract that pays him an average of $22.3 million per year. The former Ole Miss star has won two Super Bowls, but his play has deteriorated the past couple of seasons.

Also making the list, at No. 4, is Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford. The former Georgia quarterback has produced great stats in his NFL career, but hasn’t been consistent.

Stafford’s contract has two years remaining and the Lions’ cap hit his deal averages $22.3 million for those two years.
