Where is the D? Vanderbilt sets SEC record for defensive ineptitude
When Derek Mason made the decision to remove David Kotulski as his defensive coordinator and insert himself into the position following his first season in Nashville the move appeared to be a work of genius. Not only did it the decision save his job but Mason led the Commodores to several incredible defensive performances over the years.
Unfortunately, all those highlights came before the 2017 season.
Look no further than this lowly stat that sums up the ineptitude of the Vanderbilt defense this season, the Dores have allowed 336 points in SEC play, the most in conference history.
Vanderbilt has now allowed a record number of points in an SEC football season (336). And there are 47 minutes left in this season.

Considering Mason now runs the defense in Nashville, he may have to consider handing the duties to someone else as the current setup isn’t working. Vanderbilt is a loss away from losing eight games for the third time in Mason’s four seasons in Nashville.
