Report: Vanderbilt starting forward enters name in NCAA transfer portal
The Vanderbilt Commodores just finished the worst year in SEC basketball history, going 0-18 in conference play.
That ended up costing coach Bryce Drew his job, and now it appears a key player could be on his way out the door, too.
Per a report from Jeff Goodman, starting F Matt Ryan — a transfer from Notre Dame — is once again exploring transfer options and has entered the NCAA transfer portal:
Vanderbilt’s Matt Ryan is transferring, source told @Stadium. Averaged 8 points this season.

Goodman followed up that tweet, though, saying Ryan told him that the Commodores still have a chance of keeping him:
Vanderbilt’s Matt Ryan told me that he hasn’t ruled out returning to the Vandy. Exploring portal options. https://t.co/4ooSbg9Rf4

Ryan appeared in 29 games this year after sitting out the 2017-18 season, starting 25 of those games. He averaged 8.1 points and 2.7 rebounds per game this year, both career-highs.
