The Troy Trojans have a Week 5 showdown against the LSU Tigers in Baton Rouge this fall, but apparently, they want more action against SEC opponents.

On a Monday morning radio appearance, Troy coach Neal Brown said the Trojans would love to take on a couple of other SEC West powerhouses in the coming years, according to AL.com:

“Without question, we’d love the opportunity to suit up and play Alabama or Auburn,” Brown said. “We tried to initiate talks. Those talks haven’t moved forward. I don’t know. We’d love to play them obviously.

“That’s going to have to be a decision Alabama and Auburn make. I think it would be a cost-prohibitive measure for them. If you look, they are playing similar teams in our league. Alabama’s playing Arkansas State for 1.7 or 1.8 million. I’m sure not only Troy, but South Alabama would love the opportunity to get on the field with those two guys as well.”

The Trojans will also play at Missouri in 2019, but have some non-conference openings in the years following that.

Whether or not Alabama or Auburn answer Troy’s challenge remains to be seen, but as Brown points out, it makes sense for the Crimson Tide and Tigers to at least see what the Trojans’ plan is.
