This Kirby Smart vs. Nick Saban thing is going to get more fun, isn’t it?

Following a massive Sunday, Georgia saw its recruiting class jump to No. 2 in the nation behind only Alabama. The Bulldogs jumped up from No. 5, passing Oregon, Oklahoma and Texas A&M in the process, and UGA has just 16 commitments, while the Tide have 20. Amazingly, Georgia has the most 5-star commitments of any team in the country now with five.

Five-star RB John Emery (Destrehan, La.), who was thought to be looking at LSU and Mississippi State, committed to the Dawgs Sunday afternoon. Next, 4-star WR Makiya Tongue (Baton Rouge, La.) committed, and 4-star LB Rian Davis (Apopka, Fl.) finished things up Sunday night.

If you’ll notice, all three are out-of-state prospects proving Georgia is gaining serious momentum in its recruiting footprint. But this is nothing new for Georgia, as this program has recruited well for a long, long time; however, it feels much different now. It feels like the Dawgs finally have a staff who can recruit and develop, something that didn’t happen under Mark Richt.

Coming off of an SEC Championship win and national championship berth, the Bulldogs have more momentum than any program in the country not named Alabama.

Sooner or later, Nick Saban is going to be defeated by a former assistant, and Kirby Smart is going to be the one to do it. Smart and UGA are stockpiling talent in Athens.
