It’s East vs. West Week in the SEC. Four of today’s six SEC games feature cross-over clashes.

The East, home to the defending SEC champion, has held its own so far in 2018, but that’s likely to change today. West teams are 1-3 but are favored in three of the four games today.

What’s going to happen? That’s why they play the games, but these are some message board headlines I think we’ll see after today’s Week 7 SEC games.

Tua sets Alabama single-game record for TD passes

It’s going to happen. It’s simply a matter of when Nick Saban allows it to happen.

Might as well be today against visiting Missouri, knee sprain/knee brace and all.

Tua Tagovailoa has thrown 4 TD passes three times this season; 16 of his 18 TD passes came in the first half, the other 2 in the third quarter.

Clearly, Tagovailoa could have matched or broken Gary Hollingsworth’s school record of 5 in a game several times already this season.

Saban wants the students to stick around? Quit running 10 consecutive running plays to close out a game and let Tagovailoa make a run at the record book in the fourth quarter.

Nobody will walk out on history.

Speaking of which …

Alabama tops 50 again, breaks school record

The Tide have topped 50 points five times, matching the program mark set in 1945.

That record, too, is falling as soon as Saban allows it. And wouldn’t it be spectacular if it happened on this play …

Jalen Hurts throws TD pass … to Tua

You know this is coming, too.

Alabama provided the first hint last week, but Hurts got the ball going to his left. If Hurts runs a jet sweep to his right, it’s game on.

For what it’s worth, I love the fact Hurts is slowly embracing a Slash role, however big or small it might be.

Florida gets to 6-1 for 3rd time in 4 years

The Gators already did their part against the West, going 2-0 for the first time since 2012. Today, it’s back to the East and a potential trap game at Vanderbilt.

This is one of those games coaches dread. Everybody’s jacked coming off an emotionally-charged statement victory over a Top 10 team. Adulation has replaced aggravation. Factor in a noon kick, on the road, in a city where visiting fans go because of everything but football?

Can Dan Mullen keep the Gators focused enough to handle the task at hand?

It’ll be closer than it should be, but Florida edges closer to the Top 10 for the first time since Will Grier’s suspension.

Putting the ‘O’ back in hot seat

Not that it’s fair or even accurate, but if Georgia hands LSU its second consecutive loss, that’ll be all some need to plug in Ed Orgeron’s hot seat.

I wrote last week in this space that Georgia was on island time, going through the motions but would flip the switch against Vanderbilt.

The Dawgs did just that. In particular, Jake Fromm did just that.

The warmups are over. ESPN ranked Georgia’s remaining schedule the 9th-toughest in America.

Georgia hasn’t beaten a Top 15 team on the road since toppling then-No. 7 Georgia Tech in 2009.

It’s always nice to do something new.

If Georgia falls? It has to win the SEC Championship Game to make the Playoff.

Auburn wins, starts petition to move to SEC East

As much as fans are fuming about what Gus Malzahn is doing to Jarrett Stidham, here’s an equally disturbing observation from last week’s game: How in the world did Auburn allow Mississippi State to do the only thing Mississippi State can do?

Mississippi State had 69 yards passing, and Auburn never had a chance because the Bulldogs ran it 57 times for 349 yards.

In the past 10 seasons, want to know who hasn’t run it for 349 yards against Auburn?

Everybody except these 4 teams. That was equal parts ridiculous and inexcusable, with a dash of embarrassing at the end.

Fortunately for the Tigers, Tennessee is barely a threat to run for half of that.

Scarnecchia to the rescue!

Jake Bentley is back … and back in the starting lineup.

That doesn’t mean we’ve seen the last of Michael Scarnecchia, especially not after he threw 3 TD passes to beat Missouri. Those 3 TD passes not only came in his first career start, they equaled Bentley’s combined TD total in 3 SEC games this season.

Bentley better be sharp. Home games are great, but they give the home crowd a chance to voice their opinion, too.

If he struggles early and Texas A&M starts to pull away — both distinct possibilities — expect to hear some calls for Scarnecchia. Given Bentley’s injury, Will Muschamp will have a convenient excuse for a quick hook.

Ole Miss vs. Arkansas: First one to 40 wins

Defense? We don’t need no stinkin’ defense. The winning team has scored at least 30 in all six of the past matchups.

Once, the loser scored 52.

Does it matter who wins? Not really — unless your Matt Luke, who absolutely cannot afford to lose this game.

But will I watch? Absolutely. Chad Morris’ offense is improving and coupled with Ole Miss’ complete disdain for tackling, the Hogs have their best chance to hit 40 against an SEC team in his first year.
