The SEC East has been much improved so far this year, with several key wins over their SEC West counterparts.

This past weekend wasn’t a great one for the East, though, even with Tennessee’s upset win at Auburn, as Alabama beat Mizzou, Texas A&M beat South Carolina and LSU routed Georgia.

Still, on Monday night’s episode of “Thinking Out Loud,” SEC Network analyst Marcus Spears said he thinks the East is actually the SEC’s top division:

“I know you still have the A&M win over Kentucky, and I know Alabama is still out there, but you can eliminate them from the conversation,” Spears says. “Then you look at Florida. They just beat LSU. Now, LSU did just beat Georgia this past weekend, but based on the figures and the numbers, right now, the East is holding it down.

“Florida beat Mississippi State, they beat LSU. Tennessee just dropped Auburn. And Kentucky beat Mississippi State as well. All three of those teams were going to finish second, third and fourth in the West — am I wrong?”

Co-host Greg McElroy does indeed respond that Spears is wrong, but the debate will continue. We’ll see this weekend if the East can take a couple more steps toward proving it is the top division in the SEC>
