UConn coach Randy Edsall earns bizarre bonus as team falls to 1-9 with loss to SMU
In many cases, the team that wins the third-down battle wins the game, but that wasn’t the case for UConn on Saturday against SMU.
However, since UConn went 9-for-16 on third downs and SMU only went 5-for-12 in the Mustangs’ 62-50 victory, UConn coach Randy Edsall still earned himself a bonus.
Yes, the Huskies fell to 1-9 with the loss, but Edsall earned at least $2,000 for winning the third-down battle on Saturday:
UConn loses to SMU, 62-50, dropping record to 1-9. Huskies coach Randy Edsall will get bonus of at least $2,000 — amount he gets whenever UConn has better 3rd-down conversion efficiency for game (UConn was 9 for 16, SMU was 5 for 12).

If that seems strange, well, it is. When you’re 1-9 but are still collecting bonuses, it’s not exactly a good look.
The Huskies travel to ECU next weekend to take on the 2-7 Pirates. We can’t even imagine what sort of bonuses Edsall will get if his team actually pulls off a victory.
