Odds Shark lists 2 SEC coaches among top 10 coaches to be fired first
As the 2019 season dawns with a full schedule this week, the heat for coaches on the perceived hot seat only ramps up from here on out.
Southern Cal’s Clay Helton has long been at the top of the list by oddsmakers and sportswriters to be the first coach to be fired this season. But two SEC coaches are also on the list of 10 coaches put out by Odds Shark.
Auburn’s Gus Malzahn is +1000, while LSU’s Ed Orgeron is +1400, as they’re the fourth and sixth highest coaches to receive the first pink slip. Coaches at Rutgers, Illinois, BYU, Virginia Tech, Florida State, Oklahoma State and Indiana round out the list.
Auburn opens against Oregon in Arlington, Texas, but after that, Malzahn would next face his biggest challenge at Texas A&M on Sept. 21. Then there’s a home game against Mississippi State, and a road tilt at Florida before a bye week on Oct. 12.
LSU similarly sees a Week 2 game at Texas before a Sept. 21 game at Vanderbilt before its first bye week.
There should be a better grasp for how Malzahn and Orgeron are viewed by late September to figure if these odds will change.
