The loaded Week 7 slate of LSU-Florida, Oklahoma-Texas and Alabama-Texas A&M and more shook up the Associated Press Top 25 rankings. It also changed the Heisman Trophy race, according to ESPN’s updated “Heisman Watch.”

The article opens by noting this is the first time all season that Oklahoma QB Jalen Hurts did not come in at No. 1. The new No. 1 is LSU QB Joe Burrow, who shined in the Tigers’ 42-28 win over Florida, going 21-of-24 passing for 293 yards and 3 touchdowns.

“Burrow is the surprise superstar leading the most surprising offense in college football,” ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg writes. “As good as Tagovailoa has been for Alabama, Burrow’s big-play brilliance makes it hard to put anyone else atop the Heisman candidate list.”

Here are the full ESPN “Heisman Watch” rankings:

  1. LSU QB Joe Burrow (44 points)
  2. Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa (43 points)
  3. Oklahoma QB Jalen Hurts (36 points)
  4. Wisconsin RB Jonathan Taylor (14 points)
  5. Ohio State QB Justin Fields (13 points)
  6. Oklahoma WR CeeDee Lamb (3 points)

Ten ESPN college football reporters cast weekly Heisman ballots for the Heisman Watch article. Players receiving votes are awarded five points for first-place votes, four points for second-place votes, three points for third-place votes, two points for fourth-place votes and one point for fifth-place votes.
