The SEC had 2 quarterbacks taken in Round 1 of the 2020 NFL Draft — LSU’s Joe Burrow (No. 1 overall to the Cincinnati Bengals) and Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa (No. 5 overall to the Miami Dolphins).

So, will either of them start for their new teams on Day 1? The Bengals cut Andy Dalton, so Burrow seems to be in control of the starting job. Tua is a different story.

On Friday on SiriusXM’s “Sports From the Sidelines,” Detroit Lions QB Chase Daniel said he doesn’t think Tua will start right away, but Burrow will:

“Burrow’s 100% starter Day 1. They cut Dalton,” Daniel said. “Now with Tua and Herbert … you have (Ryan) Fitzpatrick, you have Tyrod (Taylor). Those are the guys that are gonna play. They know the offense. Tua, I’m sorry. It might get to the point during the season where you’re gonna (play them). But think about the offensive coordinators for those teams. You’re gonna run a first-round pick quarterback — five and six (overall) — out into an offense, but they can only run 25% of your offense? They don’t have any offseason.”

Will Tua play at any point during 2020? The Dolphins invested a high pick in him, so they may be eager to see what he can do once he’s medically cleared to play again.
