Texas and Oklahoma’s reported interest in leaving the Big 12 to join the SEC is the hottest topic in all of college football, even outside of the Big 12 and SEC.

At this week’s ACC Football Kickoff event, Clemson coach Dabo Swinney was asked for his thoughts on the news. Swinney indicated it could be the beginning of a major “restructuring” in the sport.

“I would say you will hear a lot of conversation over the next five to seven years. I would imagine there will be some type of restructuring in college football over the next decade,” Swinney said. “I don’t have any intel, that is just my gut instinct, but we will see.”

If Texas and Oklahoma make the move, Swinney’s gut instinct is probably correct that it will be the beginning of more big changes. As we saw years ago, the first move in conference realignment tends to lead to other moves being made as conferences look to meet certain membership numbers.
