The big news in the college football world, understandably, is Texas and Oklahoma taking steps to potentially join the SEC.

That has other conferences around the country re-evaluating their positions. One of those conferences is the ACC, where powerhouse Clemson resides.

During an appearance on the “Dan Patrick Show,” SEC Network host Paul Finebaum said that Clemson’s brand has taken a hit due to this latest realignment (via 247Sports):

“On one hand you’re assured of your league, but your brand has gone down a little bit,” Finebaum said. “The ACC has some real issues. I heard over the weekend the ACC was looking to expand and one of the first schools they were talking about was West Virginia. Now, they turn their nose up at West Virginia 10 years ago, and West Virginia had to high-tail it across the country. You’ll add a few schools, but you can’t compete.

“Let me back up for a second. The biggest prize left is Notre Dame, and they’re kind of half in the ACC. If you’re Notre Dame, why do you need the ACC right now? You have the benefit of it in basketball. You collect the money there. You have five games there and you have your own TV network. Right now, it doesn’t make much sense.”

The ACC is in a precarious position right now. These next couple of years will be important. Meanwhile, though, Clemson should continue to dominate the league on the gridiron.
