It’s not often that a truly surprising team makes the College Football Playoff field.

But, it’s not impossible, as Cincinnati became the first Group of 5 school to make the 4-team field this past season.

So, who are the dark-horse contenders to make the Playoff in 2022? CBS Sports analyst Shehan Jeyarajah named 1 school from every Power 5 conference with a shot to disrupt the Playoff. He chose Arkansas as the SEC’s contender:

A few key parts are off to the NFL, but quarterback KJ Jefferson should only keep growing behind an offensive line that should always be excellent. The Razorbacks get Cincinnati, South Carolina and Texas A&M in the first four weeks of the season leading into Alabama. We’ll know what to expect quickly.

Then, in a section labeled “Rich Strike Bets” in honor of the horse that just won the Kentucky Derby in surprising fashion, he included the Kentucky Wildcats:

Hey Will Levis, want to live up to Chris Trapasso’s way-too-early 2023 mock draft slotting you as the No. 1 pick? I’ve got just the thing. Kentucky won 10 games last year for the second time and returning star running back Chris Rodriguez next to Levis. With an always-excellent defense on the other side and a manageable schedule leading up to a showdown with Georgia on Nov. 18, why not the ‘Cats?

Can Kentucky or Arkansas make a run for a Playoff spot? We’ll see how their seasons start this fall!
