The dumbest play in the 2022 college football season may have happened in Week 1 between UCF and South Carolina State. On 4th-and-19, the punter couldn’t decide on a fake punt run or a rugby-style punt, so he opted to boot it well past the line of scrimmage.

Everyone watching the game was clearly confused on the play, as were the announcers. The play resulted in an illegal procedure as the Bulldog punted the ball past the line of scrimmage.

For South Carolina State to upset UCF, it needs to create unique, big plays to find an edge and get some points on the board. A well-executed fake punt can sometimes swing a game. The botched punt, however, isn’t doing South Carolina State any favors in trying to upset the Knights on the road in Orlando.

UCF currently leads South Carolina State 28-0 at the beginning of the second quarter.
