Underdog Fantasy Sweet 16 player over/under picks
The Sweet 16 tips off on Thursday, with 4 games on Thursday evening and 4 on Friday night. Then the Elite Eight matchups take place on Saturday and Sunday.
There are still 3 SEC teams alive in the NCAA Tournament — No. 1 seed Alabama, No. 4 seed Tennessee and No. 8 seed Arkansas. The Vols and Hogs will play on Thursday and the Tide will take the court on Friday.
Here’s a look at their schedules for the week:
- No. 4 UConn vs. No. 8 Arkansas — Thursday at 7:15 p.m. ET on CBS
- No. 4 Tennessee vs. No. 9 FAU — Thursday at 9 p.m. ET on TBS
- No. 1 Alabama vs. No. 5 San Diego State — Friday at 6:30 p.m. ET on TBS

My picks for the Sweet 16
Nick Smith Jr. “lower” 13.0 points. The star freshman has struggled for Arkansas this year, battling a knee injury. He’s back in the mix now, but the scoring just hasn’t been there. I expect UConn-Arkansas to be a defensive battle, with the Huskies ranked No. 14 in defensive efficiency and the Hogs ranked No. 15, per KenPom. The NCAA Tournament has not been kind to Smith thus far. He’s scored only 6 points total — 6 in Round 1 vs. Illinois, 0 in Round 2 vs. Kansas. I don’t expect him to be shut out against UConn, but reaching 14 points won’t be easy.
Olivier Nkamhoua “higher” 18.5 points+rebounds+assists. Nkamhoua had a huge performance against Duke in the second round of the tourney, scoring 27 points and grabbing 5 rebounds. While expecting another 27-point outburst wouldn’t be smart, Nkamhoua may have gained some major confidence in the absence of point guard Zakai Zeigler. Florida Atlantic isn’t as good defensively as Duke was, either, so Nkamhoua should have plenty of opportunities to score.
Brandon Miller “lower” 26.5 points+rebounds+assists. Much like Smith above, Miller is a freshman who has had a few struggles in the NCAA Tournament so far. And like Smith and the Razorbacks, Miller’s Alabama team faces a tough defensive foe in San Diego State. The Tide have the No. 3 defense, per KenPom, while the Aztecs check in at No. 5. This “lower” pick isn’t saying Miller will be bad. Not at all. But a 15-point, 8-rebound performance would be stellar against SDSU’s defense and would likely be enough to help the Tide win comfortably while also hitting the “lower” option comfortably.
How many picks should you make?
The more picks you string together, the higher the “multiplier” or payout. Of course, the more you string together, the less likely you are to win because all of the picks have to hit in order for you to win.
