Caleb Williams’ decision will be one to watch for college football fans across the country.

The Oklahoma quarterback announced on Monday that he had entered the transfer portal. Of course, he could elect to remain in Norman when it’s all said and done, and to that end, Sooners head coach Brent Venables and director of athletics Joe Castiglione released a joint statement shortly after Williams revealed his intentions on social media.

Until Williams makes his ultimate choice, though, the rumors and speculation will be rife across all corners of the sports. However, Yahoo Sports’ Pete Thamel on Tuesday tweeted that he had spoken with Williams’ father, Carl, about the news.

During the phone call, Thamel reports, the elder Williams mentioned that they were on vacation “chuckling at all the rumors”. Carl Williams also said that “no decision…is imminent” and that “the family plans to take their time with the decision”.

One factor that will certainly play into Caleb Williams’ choice is the decision by Dillon Gabriel to transfer to Oklahoma. The former UCF star, who combined for 59 touchdowns and over 7,200 yards in 2019 and 2020 but suffered a season-ending injury 3 games into the 2021 season, initially committed to UCLA but on Monday flipped his commitment to Oklahoma.

But while his family may be amused by the rumors, those won’t go away until Caleb Williams reveals his plans for 2022.
