Stephen A. Smith’s sports analysis has been in the news a lot lately, and not for good reasons.

The ESPN analyst said Ohio State QB Dwayne Haskins was more of a runner than a thrower and has also recently said he was excited for a Chiefs-Chargers matchup by naming three players who weren’t playing in the game.

On Tuesday, he was at it again. This time, while speaking about the Washington Redskins’ quarterback woes, he bizarrely claimed that Washington punter Tress Way started a game at quarterback:

Yes, Way is listed on the Redskins’ pro-football-reference.com page under passing stats, but he completed one pass for seven yards on a trick play. Even Smith should have been able to tell the difference between a punter who threw one pass all year and a starting quarterback.

Many have wondered if these mistakes are a way for ESPN to get attention for the show and for Smith, but if that is the strategy, it’s a bad one, as it makes one of their top personalities look like he doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

It’s more likely that Smith is spread too thin at the network and isn’t doing the proper research before going on the air.
