Following the big weekend of conference play for several league teams (especially Tennessee and Texas A&M), the SEC office has officially named its Week 4 SEC Players of the Week.

The top individuals honored by the SEC followed Week 4:

Offensive Player of the Week – Joshua Dobbs, QB, Tennessee

  • Senior quarterback Joshua Dobbs led the Vols back from a 21-point deficit to defeat Florida 38-28 on Saturday and end UT’s 11-game losing streak against the Gators. The comeback tied for the third-largest comeback in Tennessee history.
  • Dobbs was responsible for five touchdowns, completing 16 of 32 passes for 319 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions and rushing for 80 yards and one score on 17 carries.
  • He shined in the second half, going 9-for-12 for 235 yards, four touchdowns and one interception with nine carries for 41 yards and a score. After trailing 21-0 in the second quarter, Dobbs and the Tennessee offense scored 38-straight points to seize momentum from the Gators.
  • All four of his touchdown passes on Saturday were 20-yards or longer. His first was a 23-yard pass to Jalen Hurd that brought the Vols to within 21-10. His second was a 20-yard pass down the middle to Ethan Wolf that put the Vols within one score at 21-17. His third was a 67-yarder to Jauan Jennings down the right sideline that gave Tennessee a 24-21 lead. His fourth was a 42-yard strike to Josh Malone that extended the lead to 31-21.
  • Dobbs is now 18-5 in his last 23 games as Tennessee’s starting quarterback and 18-8 overall in his career. • Dobbs now has 36 career touchdown passes, tying him with Jonathan Crompton (2006-09), Heath Schuler (1991-93) and Andy Kelly (36) for fifth-most in Tennessee history.

Defensive Player of the Week – Armani Watts, Safety, Texas A&M

  • Watts helped lead a defensive effort that kept the Arkansas Razorbacks out of the end zone on two goal-line situations.
  • Watts had nine tackles on the evening, with 2.5 tackles for losses totaling seven yards.
  • He forced one fumble and recovered near the Arkansas goal line. He also broke up one pass and had one quarterback hurry. • His 4th-down stop of Arkansas kept the score tied at 17 and ended a 19-play 89-yard drive by Arkansas.

Special Teams Player of the Week – Daniel Carlson, PK, Auburn

  • Tied a school and Southeastern Conference record with six field goals in Auburn’s 18-13 win over #18 LSU. It was the seventh occurrence in SEC history and most since Ole Miss’ Jonathan Nichols in 2003. Carlson’s six field goals equaled Al Del Greco’s six field goals versus Kentucky in 1982.
  • With a 51-yard field goal in the first quarter, Carlson is now 7-for-8 in his career on field goals of 50 yards or more.
  • Carlson has made 29 of his last 30 field goals, dating back to the 2015 Kentucky game. • Carlson is just the seventh FBS kicker since 2006 to go a perfect 6-for-6 in a game.

Freshman of the Week Trayveon Williams, RB, Texas A&M

  • Williams, a true freshman, helped the Aggies beat Arkansas at AT&T Stadium 153 net rushing yards on 12 carries for an average of 12.8 per carry and scored two rushing touchdowns in the Aggies’ victory.
  • Williams also caught three passes for a net of five yards.

Offensive Lineman of the Week – Jordan Sims, OL, Ole Miss

  • Paved the way for an impressive Ole Miss offense in the 45-14 win over Georgia.
  • Helped record 510 total yards of offense, the Rebels’ second straight game with more than 500.
  • Ole Miss converted all four red-zone attempts in the game and have now converted 17 of 18 chances this season.
  • Led a Rebel line that surrendered just one sack.

Defensive Lineman of the Week (tie) – Derek Barnett, DE, Tennessee

  • Barnett enjoyed his best game of the season with five tackles (three solo), two sacks for six yards, three tackles for loss for eight yards and one pass breakup.
  • Barnett sparked Tennessee’s second-half defense, which limited Florida to just one touchdown after halftime. His energy in the third quarter fueled the rest of the defense as the Gators managed just 102 yards in the second half.
  • Both of Barnett’s sacks came at key moments. He recorded the 21st sack of his career, bringing Appleby down for a one-yard sack late in the third quarter on a 3rd-and-10. Barnett made the 22nd sack of his career in the fourth quarter on 3rd-and-6 at the UF 24 to force a punt. He surpassed Parys Haralson (21, 2002-05), John Henderson (20.5, 19998-2001) and James Wilson (20.5, 1989-93) to move to No. 5 on UT’s all-time sack list.
  • Barnett now ranks third among all active FBS players with 22.0 career sacks.
  • Barnett now also has 39 tackles for loss in his career, movin him past Todd Kelly (36.5, 1989-92) and John Henderson (38.5, 1998-2001) to fifth place on Tennessee’s all-time list.
  • With the Vols up 38-28 in the fourth, he also broke up a pass to Antonio Callaway on first down as the UT defense shut down the Gators one more time on their final possession.

Defensive Lineman of the Week (tie) – Denzil Ware, DE, Kentucky

  • Made five tackles, including two quarterback sacks (-21 yards), in UK’s win over South Carolina.
  • With South Carolina in UK territory, threatening to tie the game late in the fourth quarter, Ware sacked the quarterback for a 19-yard loss on fourth down; it turned out to be USC’s final offensive play of the game.
  • Ended another USC possession with a sack in the third quarter.
  • Ware helped Kentucky’s defense limit USC its season low of 10 points and only 3 of 13 on third-down conversions.
  • The Gamecocks had only three plays longer than 13 yards during the game.
