A wild Week 4 is in the books, and ESPN’s Football Power Index (“a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team’s performance going forward for the rest of the season” calculated from 10,000 simulations) has been updated. Spoiler alert – some SEC fanbases aren’t going to like the rankings.

A total of eight SEC teams make the top 25 in FPI heading into Week 5:

  • No. 1 – Alabama
  • No. 3 – Georgia
  • No. 10 – Auburn
  • No. 13 – Texas A&M
  • No. 16 – Mississippi State
  • No. 19 – LSU
  • No. 21 – Florida
  • No. 24 – South Carolina

For those wondering, Kentucky is ranked No. 35 by the metric, despite wins over Florida in Week 2 and Mississippi State in Week 4. The Auburn and LSU rankings also demonstrate that the FPI does not factor in previous outcomes from head-to-head meetings on the field.
