That dawg lives a better life than a lot of people. Aren't there some starving kids in Africa these folks can worry about? Or maybe some homeless folks right here in the US? UGA is just fine.
Maybe I am wrong, but I just don't see these two guys getting along at all. Jimbo has been calling plays for years. I just don't see him letting Petrino run that offense constantly interfering. He won't be able to let it go.
I was afraid that Georgia scored with too much time on the clock, giving Ohio State's offense plenty of time to get in comfortable position for the field goal. Fortunately Georgia's defense held just out of that comfortable range.
Okay, he is correct, and my guess the majority of NC State fans probably agree with him. He just should have left it unsaid. I am sure the woke faculty and administrators in Raleigh were mortified and will require counseling and have to retreat to their safe spaces to get over it.
I love Stetson Bennett. His story is one of the best in college sports in the last 25 years. I hope he wins another national championship. But he is not better than Hendon Hooker. Hooker at least should have been in New York. And I am certainly not a Tennessee fan.
Congrats to State. Any win over your rival is a good win. And yes, you guys better do what it takes to keep your defensive coordinator.
The first person I would fire would be the brainiac that gave him that extension with no buyout clause. That's the first person that needs to hit the road.
He's a good athlete and I am very happy for the young man. Glad he had this opportunity to play.
Karl Dorrell is a position coach. He's pretty decent at that, but nothing more. He needs to go back to the NFL and coach receivers.
Must have mistaken the sidelines for a Carnival cruise?
You mean the same Northwestern team that just lost to Southern Illinois? The one that Nebraska lost to?
So what was the Tennessee dugout so upset over that it got the head coach and the pitching coach thrown out? Nothing in the play looked controversial??? Obviously I have only seen the replay and wasn't watching the game.
I am old and poor but I gave a few dollars for this. Lets hope the ultra rich boosters that help pay these ridiculous coaches salaries and buyouts step up to the plate and help this family out.
I am sure they spent months, if not years and millions of dollars coming up with this. Typical of the type of nonsense academic administrator types love to spend their time doing. Lots of feel good meetings making this monumental decision. In the meantime, still no ground broken on the facilities upgrades for athletics?
I think the portal will calm down somewhat over the next couple of years as a lot of pretty decent players are not getting offers from schools. A lot of these kids are going to find they are better off sticking around and working hard to get on the field as juniors and seniors. Obviously some will still need to transfer. The NIL is more concerning to me. I don't mind the kids making money, but there has to be some controls and checks on this. Otherwise the top 20 or so schools with the richest booster base might as well form their own conference and play each other. The remaining 110 FBS programs have no chance at competing.
Hard not to like Curry as a person. He should have stayed at Georgia Tech where he was reasonably successful and that would have been okay.
Saban may be the best, but Coach Bryant is still tops in my book. Yes, I am a boomer, but still. I remember the first time I saw Coach Bryant in person. He was coming out of the locker room with his team in Nashville back in the 70's. I just stopped and stared at him. It was like God himself had appeared in the flesh. But I guess he had that effect on a lot of people.
If Auburn doesn't want the guy, just pay him his money and show him the door. If they have enough money to pay Guz 21 million to leave, they have enough to pay Harsin 18 million to leave. Of course, even billionaires and their egos get tired of this after a while, or so I used to think?
Good for Gus. He has his 21 million from the Auburn mega boosters plus he won't get run out of town with a 9-4 record in Orlando.
Regardless of what any of these coaches say, these kids know where the big money is even though the schools can't officially use it for a recruiting tool. Its all a big shell game. What we are headed for, and maybe we are there all ready, is semi-pro football with no salary caps and minimal controls over free agency. There will be a "Premier League" of the top 20 or so schools with the mega boosters that don't mind spending the money on players. The rest of college football will be in a different league.
I think you are correct. Barring some decent rules regarding all this, along with severe penalties for violators, we are going to have a "Premier League" where the top 25 or so programs with the richest mega boosters buy all the players and the rest will be in a lower division. Its been that way to a certain extent for years but its only going to get worse.
Wasn't it just a few weeks ago that Ole Jimbo was bragging about how many millions in NIL money would be available for his team? Maybe he was just joking?
Very nice article. Thanks so much for writing it.
Considering the roster he had to work with, he should have been coach of the year. His team played hard even after it was obvious they had nothing to play for. I hope he gets another chance if he wants it. Totally classless move by Houston.
My biggest problem with Herbstreit is that he just goes on and on and on. I don't like it when the so-called color guy takes over the broadcast and he does it all the time. I find myself having to mute the TV for longer periods of time when he is broadcasting. He must be getting paid by the word?
Its the wild, wild west. Even the professional sports (most of them) have salary caps and rules regarding free agency. As much as I hate the NCAA for any number of reasons, they are going to have to step in with some rules.
I guess these ultra rich boosters can spend their money however they want? They certainly don't mind paying huge buyouts after a couple of seasons of 8-4 and 7-5 at some of these programs.
Granted, some of these football coaches make too much money. However, their salaries, most of their salaries anyway, are paid for by the big athletic boosters. These ultra rich boosters can spend their money however they want.
