Angel Reese has a new team. The standout LSU forward was selected No. 7 in the 2024 WNBA Draft by the Chicago Sky. Reese begins her professional basketball career after four seasons in college.

Out of the St. Frances Academy in Maryland, Reese was rated the No. 2 overall prospect of the Class of 2020, a group that included Hailey Van Lith (No. 7), Caitlin Clark (No. 4), Kamilla Cardoso (No. 5) and Paige Bueckers (No. 1). She ended up seeing a lot of Van Lith (LSU teammate), Cardoso (on-court rival at South Carolina) and Clark (on-court rival at Iowa).

In Chicago, Reese and Cardoso will be teammates.

Reese initially stayed home, beginning her college basketball career at Maryland. After two seasons with the Terrapins, she transferred to Kim Mulkey’s LSU program.

Reese leaves Baton Rouge as one of the program’s most decorated athletes.

Reese was key to LSU winning its first national championship

Reese joined LSU for the 2022-23 season, her junior year.

For the second consecutive season, Reese averaged a double-double. As a Maryland sophomore starter, Reese averaged 17.8 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. In her first seasons in purple and gold, Reese upped those averages to 23 points and 15.4 rebounds per contest, leading the SEC in both categories.

Reese broke new ground with never-before-seen statlines. She set an SEC record with 28 rebounds against Texas A&M. In a game against Florida, Reese became the first SEC player in over 20 years with 25 points, 16 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 blocks and 2 steals. In the NCAA Tournament, she’d become the first SEC player to record more than 30 points and 15 rebounds in a game.

During LSU’s 2023 March Madness run, Reese averaged 21.3 points and 15.2 rebounds per game. In the national championship win over Iowa, Reese logged 15 points and 10 boards.

Reese’s social brand experienced substantial growth over her first season at LSU, bringing increased attention to the team’s campaign to repeat. While the Tigers came up short of going back-to-back with an Elite 8 loss to Iowa, Reese had another standout showing.

This past season, Reese averaged 18.6 points and 13.4 rebounds per game to lead the SEC. She’s the first played to lead the league in both stats over consecutive seasons since Vanderbilt’s Wendy Scholtens (1989, ’90).

Reese leaves LSU having posted double-figure scoring in all 67 games as a Tiger. As a senior, she logged double-doubles in 27 contests, second-most nationally. Reese shined on the offensive glass, leading the nation with 5.5 rebounds per game.
