Nick Saban’s planning to mix things up a bit on offense if need be this season.

Alabama’s head coach revealed Wednesday that All-SEC cornerback Cyrus Jones could see snaps on the other side of the football this fall.

“It’ll be interesting to see how the other players that we have respond and see if we need to do that,” Saban said, according to AL.com. “Cyrus is a real strong part of our defense at a really important position the way we play. We’ve got to have good corners, and he certainly played well for us last year. But that is a consideration that we may use him on offense at some point in time during the season.”

Jones, who also handles punt return duties for the Crimson Tide, is intrigued by the idea. He’s practiced at wide receiver recently and would bring additional athleticism to a unit that’s relatively inexperienced coming into the season.

In the meantime, Alabama’s going to see how Robert Foster, Chris Black, ArDarius Stewart and Calvin Ridley perform at the position before inserting the 5-foot-10, 195-pound Jones into the lineup. Jones played at wide receiver as a freshman in 2012 before making a full-time transition to the defensive backfield.

Saban said Wednesday that wideout Cam Sims has been cleared to play in Saturday’s opener, six months after suffering a torn ACL and LCL in his knee. Sims is nearing full-strength, but his availability will be a game-time decision.

“I think that’s a decision that I’d like to make with him, even though he’s been cleared medically,” Saban said, according to AL.com.
