TUSCALOOSA, Ala. _ University of Alabama sophomore kicker Adam Griffith earned the team’s first Southeastern Conference player of the week award when he received the special-teams honor for Week 1 on Monday afternoon.

Griffith made all four field-goal attempts, from 47, 41, 27 and 45 yards, and converted all three extra points during Alabama’s 33-23 victory over West Virginia at the Georgia Dome.

“I felt really comfortable,” he said after the game.

Griffith also averaged 64.7 on kickoffs with three touchbacks on seven attempts.

Earlier Monday the Alabama coaching staff named he and freshman punter J.K Scott the team’s co-special teams players of the week with Nick Saban saying that they, “did a really, really good job.”

It’s the second straight year that a Crimson Tide player won the SEC special-teams award after Week 1, after return-specialist Christion Jones won in 2013. Former punter Cody Mandell was the most recent winner, after last season’s Mississippi State game.

The other Week 1 winners:

Defensive player of the week: Georgia linebacker Amarlo Herrera
Freshman of the week: Auburn punter Daniel Carlson
Offensive lineman of the week: Kentucky center Jon Toth
