The competition for Alabama’s starting QB spot in 2016 looks like it will be between returnees Cooper Bateman and Blake Barnett and incoming recruit Jalen Hurts.

It’s obviously too early to tell which player has the upper hand, but the winner will definitely have plenty of targets at his disposal.

Let’s take a look at the Crimson Tide’s receivers and tight ends for this upcoming season.

Calvin Ridley

He had a breakout season in his first year in Tuscaloosa. With 89 catches for 1,045 yards – which broke Amari Cooper’s school record for a freshman – and 7 TDs, Ridley helped Jacob Coker lead Alabama to the national title.

Once Nick Saban settles on his signal caller, it will be interesting to see what Ridley can do for an encore.

ArDarius Stewart

The 6-1, 204-pounder strutted his stuff in 2015 with 63 receptions for 700 yards and 4 scores – all career highs. Clearly establishing himself as Bama’s No. 2 wideout, Stewart is one-half of what is arguably the best receiving combo in the SEC.

Gehrig Dieter

Alabama will be the third college stop for this 6-3, 207-pounder, who, according to foxsports.com, committed to the Tide on Saturday after spending the past two seasons at Bowling Green following one year at SMU. In 2015, Dieter led the Falcons with 94 catches and finished second on the team in receiving yards (1,033) and TDs (10).

Dieter was a three-star recruit, the No. 100-ranked receiver in the 2012 class out of South Bend (Ind.) Washington High.

He might be the perfect candidate to replace Richard Mullaney, Bama’s No. 3 wideout last season.

Dieter had seven receptions for 133 yards and a TD in Bowling Green’s season opener last year, a 59-30 loss to Tennessee, so he has an idea of what it’s like to play against the SEC.

With Chris Black, last year’s backup to Mullaney, transferring to Missouri, Dieter’s arrival might be even more significant.

O.J. Howard

Bama’s starting tight end finished strong last season with the game of his life against Clemson. In Alabama’s 45-40 victory over the Tigers that secured the national championship, Howard caught five passes for 208 yards and 2 TDs – both career highs – which no doubt raised his NFL Draft stock. But the 6-6, 242-pounder, who finished with 38 catches for 602 yards and his two scores against Clemson, is returning for his senior season.

Robert Foster

This former 5-star recruit was emerging as Alabama’s top receiver until a shoulder injury in Week 3 ended his season. He finished 2015 with 10 receptions for 116 yards and 2 TDs.

Other returnees

Receivers Cam Sims (6 catches for 46 yards), Daylon Charlot (2 for 9) and Derek Kief (1 for -3) along with backup tight ends Dakota Ball (1 for 8) and Hale Hentges (1 for 5) all contributed last season and will be battling for snaps.

Key newcomer

T.J. Simmons, a 6-2, 180-pounder out of Pinson, Ala., is the lone wide receiver prospect in Alabama’s 24-member recruiting class of 2016. Simmons was a three-star prospect and No. 81-ranked receiver, according to 247Sports.com’s composite rankings.
