TUSCALOOSA, Ala. _ Junior wide receiver Amari Cooper led a group of eight who were named players of the week by the University of Alabama coaching staff on Monday.

With 12 catches for 130 yards, Copper was one reception shy of tying the school record for catches in a game held by DJ Hall.

Senior fullback Jalston Fowler and junior running back T.J. Yeldon were the offensive players named. Yeldon led all rushers with 126 yards on 23 carries and had two touchdowns.

“You might say, ‘Well, Jalston Fowler, he didn’t even carry the ball,’” Saban said. “He did a great job of blocking. Did a really good job on special teams, too.”

“I had to, that’s my job,” Fowler said with a laugh.

The defensive selections were sophomore defensive end Jonathan Allen, junior safety Landon Collins and junior cornerback Cyrus Jones. Sophomore kicker Adam Griffith and freshman punter JK Scott were named on special teams.

Allen led the defense in team production points with tallying five tackles (two for loss) and a sack. Collins had eight tackles while Jones made seven and broke up a pass.

Griffith was a perfect 4-for-4 on field-goal attempts, connecting from 47, 41, 27 and 45 yards. He averaged 64.7 yards on kickoffs and had three touchbacks on seven attempts. Scott had just two punts, but one was for 62 yards.

“Other than that, we didn’t have a whole bunch of production on special teams,” said Saban, “and had one really negative play.”
