Of course, Alabama coach Nick Saban will one day be a member of the College Football Hall of Fame. For now, he’ll continue to accept an award from them.

On Friday, Saban was in Atlanta to accept the National Football Foundation’s MacArthur Bowl trophy on behalf of his team. The honor has been given annually to the national champions since 1959.

Saban took a moment to speak to reporters beforehand and answer some questions. Among them was the program’s approach to social media.

“We don’t have rules that people can’t use Twitter. We just want them to be responsible, and we certainly don’t want them to do anything that’s going to affect themselves in an adverse way or affect our program, our university or our team in an adverse way.”

He was also asked about offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin. He had praise for him and only had good things to say about their working relationship.

“He didn’t challenge me in any way. He hasn’t challenged me in any way. He doesn’t challenge me in any way. He does an outstanding job for us. He’s done a good job with two quarterbacks that we’ve had that had only been one-year starters that had limited experience. He’s done a good job of teaching our players, and I think our players really buy into what we’re trying to do on offense and believe in the philosophy.”

Saban was interviewed by Brad Nessler, who left ESPN to join CBS and replace Verne Lunquist to call SEC games. Saban had some very high praise for Nessler.

“This guy here is going to be doing CBS, take Verne’s place who’s done a great job for a long time and be with us in the SEC. I’d just like everybody to know that we couldn’t have picked anybody better than this guy. What a great professional he is.”
