Alabama exits spring practice as the defending SEC champions and most recent team from the conference to win a national title. Yet many seem to think that Auburn is the West Division favorite. ESPN.com even ranked Ole Miss ahead of Bama in its SEC power poll this week.

Some of the doubt is understandable considering the Tide still need to determine a starting quarterback, try to replace Amari Cooper at receiver and solve the perplexing back end of the defense.

But Alabama’s two-deep roster is loaded with four- and five-star talent, SEC standouts and future NFL draft picks. Here’s a guess at how the depth chart will look when the Tide enter fall practice.

OFFENSE

QB1: Jacob Coker
QB2: David Cornwell

It’s only a theory, but I got the feeling that Nick Saban spent the spring trying to come up with ways to motivate Coker, such as letting the media know that Cornwell may be ahead in the competition just before the A-Day game. At any rate, the Crimson Tide doesn’t seem to have a viable second option like Blake Sims last season, so Coker may be the starter by default.

RB1: Derrick Henry
RB2: Kenyan Drake

The Tide are surprisingly thin at the position, especially if offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin uses Drake more like a receiver at times. But Henry is built to be a workhorse back.

X WR1: Robert Foster
X WR2: Raheem Falkins

Z WR1: ArDarius Stewart
Z WR2: Parker Barrineau

Y WR1: Chris Black
Y WR2: Derek Kief

TE1: O.J. Howard
TE2: Ty Flournoy-Smith

Losing Cam Sims to a torn ACL hurt, especially after the top three wideouts from the ’14 team left. But in some ways it could be a good thing, as Alabama may take advantage of matchups with a diverse and talented group of pass-catchers rather than relying on one superstar every single week. Don’t be surprised if the total output from the passing game is pretty similar this fall.

LT1: Cam Robinson
LT2: Korren Kirven

LG1: Ross Pierschbacher
LG2:
Isaac Luatua

C1: Ryan Kelly
C2:
 J.C. Hassenauer

RG1: Bradley Bozeman
RG2:
 Alphonse Taylor

RT1: Dominick Jackson
RT2: Brandon Greene

This will not be mistaken for the 2012 Bama offensive line, but at least the Tide have the two most important positions locked down, left tackle and center. The right side of the line may be a slight concern entering the fall.

DEFENSE

DE1: Jonathan Allen
DE2: D.J. Pettway

DT1: A’Shawn Robinson
DT2: Darren Lake/Josh Frazier

DE1: Jarran Reed
DE2: Dalvin Tomlinson

This group wasn’t infallible last year, especially when opponents operated with tempo and were able to lean on this group late in games. But Robinson should be ready for a huge leap forward, and it’s tough for any SEC team to beat this two-deep in ’15.

JACK1: Ryan Anderson
JACK2: Tim Williams

MIKE1: Reuben Foster
MIKE2: Shaun Dion Hamilton

WILL1: Reggie Ragland
WILL2: Dillon Lee

SAM1: Denzel Devall
SAM2: Rashaan Evans

Foster is a fan favorite, but he and Hamilton still are locked in a tight battle. Don’t be surprised if both see the field often this fall. At outside linebacker, the starters are the most experienced players, but the team should substitute liberally depending on the package, and all four players listed here will see snaps.

CB1: Cyrus Jones
CB2: Marlon Humphrey

CB1: Tony Brown
CB2: Bradley Sylve

SS1: Eddie Jackson
SS2: Hootie Jones

FS1: Geno Smith
FS2: Ronnie Harrison

STAR1: Maurice Smith
STAR2: Jabriel Washington

Arguably the biggest source of consternation on the Alabama roster in the last two years, the Tide have a good mix of veterans and young talent. Still, Saban and new defensive backs coach Mel Tucker need a few players to step up and play at a high level alongside Cyrus Jones, who is the surest bet in the secondary.

K: Adam Griffith
P: JK Scott

KR: Tony Brown
PR: Cyrus Jones

Scott could be the best punter in the country in ’15. No one outside of the coaches and maybe the players has a good grasp on who will return kicks and punts, but the Tide have plenty of options.
