TUSCALOOSA, Ala. _ Jonathan Allen became the latest University of Alabama player to join the walking wounded at training camp as the sophomore defensive end was limited during Thursday’s practice.

Allen has had his left ankle taped since last Saturday’s first scrimmage of training camp. Despite being in full pads Thursday he didn’t participate in any of the individual drills when reporters were allowed to observe.

With Alabama having completed its final two-a-day on Wednesday, it’s at the peak in terms of the physical challenges of camp. After holding its second and final closed scrimmage on Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium players will be given an extra day off for rest and recovery.

Here’s an update on everyone’s health status as numerous underclassmen are expected to get extra work while filling in on Saturday:

Senior offensive lineman Leon Brown (foot): Practiced for the first time Monday to begin his five-day re-acclimation period, and has been going through drills with the second unit. Coaches hope to have him up to full speed next week.

Senior linebacker Trey DePriest (knee): DePriest continues to wear a knee brace at practice and coaches are still being cautious, giving freshman Shaun Dion Hamilton extra snaps in his place.

Junior linebacker Denzel Devall (undisclosed): Devall continues to wear a support that can indicate a calf or hamstring injury, but hasn’t missed any practices.

Sophomore tight end Kurt Freitag (turf toe): Has yet to return to practice after sustaining a turf-toe injury during last week’s scrimmage.

Junior offensive lineman Dominick Jackson (ankle): The junior-college transfer is expected to be out for another week due to a sprain. Sophomore Alphonse Taylor has essentially worked with the first unit for all of camp.

Sophomore cornerback Eddie Jackson (knee): Nick Saban has said that he won’t return to the mix until he’s 100 percent, but there’s no indication of when that might be. Regardless, Jackson’s return to practice after having surgery four months ago has been nothing short of impressive.

Freshman tight end Keith Holcombe (undisclosed): Has not been practicing and Saban has not commented on his injury.

Senior nose guard Brandon Ivory and junior defensive end Jarran Reed (suspended): Both are practicing and trying to re-earn their starting jobs. However, the first unit Thursday was, from left to right, D.J. Pettway, Darren Lake and Dalvin Tomlinson.

Sophomore defensive lineman A’Shawn Robinson (knee): Robinson hasn’t practiced since sustaining a sprain last Tuesday. He’s not expected to return to practice this week.

Junior defensive back Geno Smith (knee): Smith sustained a sprained knee during the first scrimmage. He’s dressed for all the subsequent practices, but has yet to go through drills.

Senior tight end Brian Vogler (undisclosed): Saban listed Vogler among the players were who were “banged up” after the first scrimmage, and he’s been limited during practices.

Sophomore linebacker Tim Williams (suspended): There’s been no change in his status.

Freshman defensive lineman O.J. Smith (shoulder): Out for the season.
