Here are some quick thoughts from Arkansas’ 30-0 win over Ole Miss:

What it means: Bret Bielema has gotten his team bowl eligible with the win over the Rebels, but perhaps more importantly, Arkansas was able to carry last week’s momentum over to a dominating win over the eighth-ranked team in the country. The Razorbacks are now in position to close the season with three consecutive conference wins, a huge accomplishment for this team.

What I liked: Defensive coordinator Robb Smith couldn’t have dreamed up a better effort from his defense. The Hogs allowed 351 yards, but forced six Ole Miss turnovers. Trey Flowers, Martrell Spaight, Darius Philon, Tevin Mitchel and Rohan Gaines all turned in impact performances. Arkansas held the Rebels to just 3-of-11 on third downs and 0-of-2 on fourth downs. Saturday marked the first time Arkansas has pitched back-to-back shutouts in conference play.

Who’s the man: The honor today goes to Bielema. For two straight weeks, he’s gotten his team ready to play big games and it has responded. The Hogs are now on the verge of closing the season on a strong note and heading into the offseason garnering serious consideration as a threat in the West. Look for Bielema to have his team prepared again on a short week, with Missouri coming up on Friday.

Key play: On the third play from scrimmage, Brandon Allen found Keon Hatcher on a 25-yard strike across the middle for the touchdown and a 7-0 lead. Arkansas went 52 yards in three plays and set the tone from the start. The Hogs never looked back.

What’s next: Arkansas travels to Columbia for the inaugural Battle Line Rivalry and a showdown with Missouri on Friday afternoon.
