Jeremiah Dinson’s quest to play in 2016 has apparently come to an end.

The sophomore defensive back was aiming to play this year after suffering several injuries against Texas A&M on Nov. 7 last year. But Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said during a Tuesday news conference that Dinson, along with redshirt freshman Jamel Dean, are unlikely to return this season.

Dean was in the mix for one of the starting cornerback jobs before suffering a knee injury during fall camp that required surgery.

Dinson, meanwhile, got blindsided by Aggies receiver Ricky Seal-Jones in last year’s game and still hasn’t fully recovered. The sophomore dislocated his shoulder and tore three ligaments in his right knee that was also dislocated because of the hit.

The good news is Malzahn expects both players to be healthy enough to participate in spring practice.
