To compete for national titles in modern college football, having top-notch facilities is just as important as recruiting or coaching.

Gus Malzahn is doing his part to make sure Auburn stays among the leaders in that department.

According to a report from AL.com, the sixth-year Tigers coach and his wife have donated $2 million toward the development of a football-only facility at the school. The project has been in the works for quite some time — the report cited a May 2015 document given to the Auburn board of trustees that laid out a $30 million budget this year for the complex.

Clemson recently completed a sprawling football facility, and recent years have seen the SEC engage in an arms race to construct cutting-edge facilities.

With Malzahn’s huge personal donation, it’s clear he’s committed to cementing Auburn as a perennial championship contender.
